Day 5:Nov 4, 2010:Texas

Our last day of work camp. The girls prepared gift bags for the church ladies that made us our delicious lunch everyday then starting painting again. Can hardly believe we only spilled paint on the floor once. The men finished installing doors, trim and lighting. A major clean up after lunch showed just how much we accomplish in 4 days. A group photo followed by prayer and hugs with Pastor Oscar and Sister Rosa, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up and then travel to Benjamen’s ranch for a brief visit. Pastor Janet enjoyed feeding the horse and the boys liked looking at all the ranch toys.

Thought for the Day: “Ring a Ding Ding Ding Dong”, says Darren :)

Day 4:Nov 3, 2010: Texas

Today we finished the trim, the bathroom upstairs is nearly complete and more painting. Worked on some a/c vents and started on the bathrooms. Some misplaced pipes led us to the rental of a jack hammer to remove some concrete. All came out well. Church service was tonight at 7pm so we worked ’til 5 made a quick trip to the hotel to freshen up and attended service. After service it was a trip to Whataburger for what else, but burgers for dinner. The team is working well together and getting along great. Friday (our last day here) is coming way too quickly.

Thought for the day: Sharing the love of God with one another is truly life altering.

Day 3:Nov 2, 2010: Texas

Today we started with a severe thunderstorm in the middle of the night and a 5 am fire alarm at the hotel, luckily just a false alarm but had everyone awake early. Some more painting was on the agenda for today. We started installing trim and finished hanging doors, roof vents were finished and the upstairs bathroom is coming along well. The day finished with dinner at Jalisco restaurant which is owned by a church member, they served authentic el Salvadorian food that was fantastic. Everyone was very tired , perhaps from the early wake up call.

Thought for the day: Evan is still conducting electrical test on himself. (but he is fine)

Day 2: Nov 1, 2010: Texas

After breakfast, we headed for the work-site where we divided into work crews. The girl’s team (nicknamed the painting divas) primed and painted trim while the guys hung doors, installed electrical fixtures and built interior walls. The weather was HOT - nearly 90 degrees. Before we left for the day, we found the biggest spider anyone has ever seen in the US! Leaving the work-site, we learned that two of our guys had been shocked while they were working. (nothing serious, everyone is well). At dinner, one team member was surprised when she ordered Tilapia and received the whole fish complete with head, eyes, etc. The team ended the day with an Andy Stanley DVD and some great discussion.

Thoughts for the Day: Working in Texas is shocking! Where are all the armadillos? What a great end to a great day!

Day 1: Oct 31, 2010: Texas

The team left FCF at 11 am and arrived in San Antonio at 5:30 pm (EST). The team loaded into the church van for the 30 minute ride to Jourdanton, Texas. On the way, we stopped by the work-site where teens from the church were hosting a community Harvest Party for children and teens in the community. From there, we checked into the hotel and ended our day anticipating an early start on Monday.

Thoughts for the Day: Thanks for driving to the airport Shanon! Who’d have thought we’d see someone from FCF at BWI? Yeah - it’s warm in TX!
